I came I saw I tried…
This is the cool exercise in London right now and I’ve been wanting to try it for a while.
The first hour was really hard. Designed to up your heart rate several people sat down including me but it was actually hotter on the floor.
Before going in the teacher warned me that it was like working out in a sauna and a beginner’s goal is to stay in the room.
I felt dizzy at several points and the first 20 minutes of the 1hr and 30 minute work out and at the point I think it was important to sit.
The last hour was hard but relaxing. I feel much more flexible now. The teacher told us how we were aligning our spines, sorting out digestion and sleep with the various exercises which I loved.
Coming out I felt a little loopy and was giggling deliriously at everything.
It’s important to rehydrate with water post class.
This was interesting but I think I prefer pilates. It wasn’t great feeling sore and nauseous the next day and 1hr 30 mins of class is a long time.
The about from the Bikram silverlake site:
Bikram Yoga (also known as hot yoga) is 90-minute yoga class consisting of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas), practiced in a hot room. The heat is used to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow a deeper workout, and cleanse the body by flushing toxins. The series was developed for both beginning and advanced students, and is suitable for all ages and levels of ability.
It is a great workout, created for maintaining excellent health and fitness, reducing stress, losing weight, limiting the effects of aging, preventing illness, and reducing the symptoms of injuries. The sequence is designed so every posture warms up the muscles and joints needed for the next posture. The series balances and strengthens every system in the body. In addition to its many physical health benefits, this yoga also encourages concentration, patience, determination, self-control, and better coping mechanisms for dealing with stress. Through a regular practice, we look, move, and feel younger.
As Bikram says, “Yoga is the only exercise in the world you can do at any age. There is always some posture that will improve your health, mind, and soul.” We believe that you will feel the benefits beginning with your very first class, and that the rewards of a regular practice are exponential.
