Music Fests, BBQ’s and Labour Day, oh my!
Echo Park Rising
This fabulous free fest that’s replaced Sunset Junction as the summer’s premiere free fest. The bands were so niche I’d never heard of them but my friends who run indierockreviews.com initiated me into a few new faces. We saw:
Youngblood hawke, Foolsgold, Warships and a few at acts at arts collective space the Refuge.
Something about this reminded me of Live at Leeds and the Camden Crawl. Lots of the musically inclined traipsing around. AWESOME!
Ps free korean wine and coconut water at the refuge is my new favourite drink.
One of the premiere faces of the trans scene Grandma a performance artist and legend (she used to hang out with Warhol in Studio 54) was in town and staying and my friend Niko of Sissy Magic fame’s place. In honour of this they had a super fun bbq in which I meant some aspiring faces of the queer scene including: Miss BarbieQ, Rhys Ernst (film maker) and a Warners Bros veteran who did the graphics for the Tim Burton Batman posters (<3).
They said they’d teach me how to do fab make up. Love those ladies!
I went to Sunday’s pre-labour day celebration and saw:Twin Shadow, Aesop Rock, yeasayer and Cursive.
That shit was fab!
I also ate lots of over priced festival food truck food… Mmmm.
