All the Buildings in New York

Australian born illustrator James Gulliver Hancock has always had a fascination with New York. A youth spent in front of iconic films such as Rear Window, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and West Side Story left him pining for the vast cityscapes of this bustling Metropolis. So he moved to Brooklyn and began drawing the iconic areas from the films he adored. Gradually this project expanded, he began to realize that it was the city’s buildings that gave it its unique character and so the ambitious: ‘drawing-every-building-in-New-York’ project was born.

His drawings in a range of media, from sharpie, to water color, to cut paper (whatever material he has on him at the time) are sketches with a touch of the twee. It is also fun going through to find your building amongst the mass of sketches. Stanton St is my road!!
